  • Are there any contraindications to Rapid Desensitization?

    It is essential to reschedule the procedure if your asthma is not well-controlled. Moreover, if you are currently taking beta-blocker medications, which are commonly used in some blood pressure medications, or using eye drops for glaucoma, do not undergo rapid desensitization. Before scheduling the procedure, the doctor will thoroughly review your medical history and all medications.

  • Are there any risks to Rapid Resensitization?

    With the recommended premedication, the risk of experiencing an allergic reaction is less. However, this risk is still higher than conventional immunotherapy. For this reason, your doctor monitors you for signs of a reaction throughout your procedure. Side effects from the premedication drugs are infrequent. However, prednisone may cause increased appetite, fluid retention, and mood changes. Reactions to the immunotherapy itself include both local and generalized reactions.


    Rarely, more severe reactions can occur, which lead to shock, severe shortness of breath, and even death. Because of these risks, we recommend that you remain in our office throughout the required observation period so that we may treat any allergic reactions promptly to minimize these risks.

  • Is the Rapid Desensitization procedure optional?

    You should confirm your benefits with your insurance company before beginning immunotherapy. The decision to choose cluster vs. conventional immunotherapy is voluntary. If you decide you do not wish to proceed with the rapid desensitization, you may continue to receive immunotherapy on an established schedule. We offer both traditional and cluster procedures in this office.
